Образ индейцев-союзников в Новой Англии XVII века

Аннотация

Несмотря на все культурные различия и периодические конфликты, английским колонистам в Новой Англии удалось уже в первые годы после основания колоний найти среди коренного населения региона многочисленных союзников. Некоторые из них позже оказались фактически в зависимом от колонистов положении, но сохранили привычные культуру, традиции и образ жизни, другие приняли христианство и переселились в «молитвенные поселения». Отдельные группы коренного населения остались независимы, но поддерживали англичан в конфликтах как с другими индейцами, так и с колониями других европейских держав. В данном докладе рассматриваются особенности восприятия индейцев-союзников колонистами, повлиявшие как на характер взаимодействий с ними на протяжении XVII века, так и на отношения с коренным населением Северной Америки в последующие десятилетия, когда английские колонии, а позже США, заняли обширные территории североамериканского континента.
