At the end of February 2015 a scientific society named «José Martí Department» was established at the Faculty of History of Moscow State University which unites university professors, researchers, specialists, postgraduate and undergraduate students. Since its establishment the society regularly conducts lectures, seminars, exhibitions and other events dedicated to the present, history, culture, literature and languages of the Ibero-American countries. Our most ambitious project is the annual international scientific conference of Iberoamericanists - «Martian Proceedings».

On March 28, 2017 the scientific society «José Martí Department» held an international scientific conference of Iberoamericanists «III Martian Proceedings» devoted to a wide range of topics. The conference was held for the third time and for the second time during the Ibero-American Week at the Faculty of History of Moscow State University which is timed to a number of memorable dates in the history of Latin America and Russian-Latin American relations.

The main work of the conference was held in three sections: «Modern Cuba» (moderators – V.A. Borodaev and A.S. Sergeev), «History and contemporary problems of the Ibero-American countries» (moderators - R.V. Karakhanova and G.S. Filatkina), «Culture, ethnography and sources about peoples of the countries of Iberoamerica» (moderators – A.E. Soldatova and E.N. Novoselova). Students, postgraduates, lecturers and researchers of the Faculty of History of the Moscow State University, the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) and the Center for Social Anthropology of the Russian State University for the Humanities, specialists from the Institute of Latin America and the Institute of Scientific Information in the Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, lecturers from the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, Moscow State University named after O. Kutafin and Voronezh State University, researchers from the Center for Crisis Society Studies, the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies and others took part in the work of the sections.

At the «III Martian Proceedings» for the first time since the establishment of the scientific society was formed the fourth – extramural section. It arose as a result of cooperation of the «José Martí Department» (MSU) and the «Lomonosov Department» (University of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba). This section was entitled «Cuba vista desde adentro» («Cuba: a view from within»). Thirty researchers from Cuba and Ecuador participated in it under the leadership of E.A. Dugareva (University of Ciego de Ávila) and T.A. Syutkina (IEA RAS). The reports presented in the section were devoted mainly to the heritage of José Martí, to the study of its significance for the present with a special emphasis on its application in the sphere of education and upbringing.

«III Martian Proceedings» aroused interest in the Latin American media which noted the good organization of the scientific forum, the high scientific level of the reports presented on it as well as the importance of discussions allowing the free exchange of opinions and scientific ideas with colleagues from different countries, educational institutions and scientific centers.

The articles of some conference’s participants from Russia and Cuba which demonstrate a variety of approaches and genres, a wide range of scientific interests of their authors and reflect various aspects of the Ibero-American problems are presented this issue of the journal.

In the section «Conferences» the reader will also find a report on the Third International Forum «Russia and Iberoamerica in a Globalizing World: History and Modernity» held at the St. Petersburg State University on October 2-4, 2017.
